"baby clothing stores"
Need advice…I am considering opening a maternity wear/baby gift store.?

The whole time I have been pregnant I have gotten frustrated with the lack of clothing options. I have been wanting a career change, so I am considering opening a maternity clothing store. The only one in our are is Motherhood, but even they seem to have the same old thing. Before I got pregnant I really cared about the way I dressed; that shouldn’t have to stop just because I am with child.

What would make for a great go-to maternity store. What would it take for you to leave and tell your pregnant friends, “Girl you need to go to that store!”

Maternity stores are a great idea.
Keep in mind it is a niche market. Only a certain amount of women get pregnant every year, and are pregnant for a certain amount of time.

I’ve found that the most successful maternity stores in my area are the ones that are new stuff, as well as consignment.
Women don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on a new wardrobe, and then feel obligated to keep the clothes forever, when there are no plans of any more babies.

Carry things like strollers and toys and baby clothes.
Maternity stores, who strictly do maternity clothes don’t last too long.
Unless you’re in a mall, JUST maternity clothes..not the best idea.
Carry cloth diapers, nursing bra’s etc.
You want repeat customers. And if a woman only gets pregnant once, you’re done with that customer as soon as the baby arrives, and that’s not what you want.

Clothes wise, just make sure you have every size in mind.
At normal maternity stores, they have normal shirts, and they accommodate a belly and boobs.

What about 4′0″ women with no boobs, no butt…they look silly in some maternity clothes.
What about a 6′6″ woman with a huge butt, and lots of curves? just because they have nice shirts for big bellies, doesn’t mean they look nice on all sizes.
Pants wise too, they are generally all the same. Make short ones, make long ones.
You want teens and older women to be comfortable in the store, make it accessible, nonthreatening and comfortable.

Good luck, I think it’s a great business idea =)

All the small children looked at Mary O’Reilly–who sat staring at the fire, with her whiskers sticking up in the air, and then felt their faces with their little fat hands. They did not find the least scrap of a whisker anywhere on their round cheeks; and Pet said–”But I a ittle girl; I not a kitty”–at which all the family laughed, and ran to kiss her–and she thought she had been very smart, I…
